Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, v28 n3 p270-275 2010
This article reviews the Parenting Relationship Questionnaire (PRQ) which was developed to assess variables of family and parenting relationships that are significant in the development of a socially and emotionally healthy child. The PRQ does an adequate job of assessing the domains present in a parent-child relationship and would be useful in clinical, pediatric, counseling, school, and other similar settings. It purports to capture a parent's perspective of the parent-child relationship and serves as a sufficient way to gain insight into a parent's or caregiver's relationship with his or her child. The PRQ includes statements that depict common thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and situations that a parent or guardian may experience when caring for his or her child. The questionnaire is designed to be easy to use and employs the common "never, sometimes, often, always" (N, S, O, A) Likert-type scale. The PRQ is user-friendly in that the instructions on the questionnaire are stated clearly and written at a fairly accessible reading level. It is recommended that this instrument be used for general assessment of parental influence to give insight into the parent-child relationship as part of a comprehensive evaluation.
