The Feminization of Schools: Young Boys Are Being Left behind. What Targeted Teaching Strategies Can Help Them Reach Their Potential?
Education Digest: Essential Readings Condensed for Quick Review, v75 n8 p35-38 Apr 2010
The evidence is clear: America's boys are being left behind by current practices in the classroom. Boys are dropping out of high schools in significant numbers, failing to complete college degrees, and behaving more violently. The author states that teachers should pay close attention to statistics that track these trends, seriously regard the research, and immediately incorporate changes into their elementary and secondary schools to bring boys back into an environment that motivates them to learn to their fullest. This article offers possible solutions and strategies to help boys re-engage in learning and reach their full learning potential.
