SSSNOW Project: Helping Make Science Cool for Students
Huff, Kenneth; Lange, Catherine
Science Scope, v33 n5 p36-41 Jan 2010
In the atmosphere or on the ground, snow provides students with unique opportunities to discover winter weather patterns. Traditionally, when students study weather, it is limited to the collection of data one would see on a weather report. However, the interdisciplinary Students Synthesizing Snow data in Natural Objective Ways (SSSNOW) project implemented with sixth-grade students involved the collection and synthesis of authentic winter weather data in their school courtyard. Through this, students discovered that the physical properties of snow can be altered due to temperature changes and physical pressure. (Contains 5 figures.)
