Milne, Sarah
Adults Learning, v20 n4 p22-23 Dec 2008
When the health of her son deteriorated, the author was forced to give up a good job and work part-time from home. She had no choice but to become more creative, grasping the opportunity to revive her passion for writing. In this article, the author describes her experience in taking care of her son and how it gives her the opportunity to realize her dream of becoming a writer. The author began to use fiction to explore her fears about her son and the difficulties his condition placed on the family. All of this helped her to cope with the life she was living. With less time at work, the author had more time to write. She enrolled on a correspondence course and made herself a list of goals and intentions. She is now committed to her life goal to become a writer. Instead of seeing her situation with her son as being prohibitive, the author sees it as opportunistic.
