What I Want from the New Government

Some of the leading players in adult learning and a few regular contributors of "Adults Learning" were asked about what they would like to see on the agendas of ministers in the new Government. This article shares and presents the thoughts of these players in adult learning. These include: (1) "Sounds like lifelong learning" by Jane Thompson; (2) "Universities for all--not just the young" by Brenda Gourley; (3) "A workforce fit for the future" by Mike Campbell; (4) "Build a learning society" by John Field; (5) "We need a cultural revolution among employers" by Brendan Barber; (6) "Not just an adjunct of economic policy" by Rennie Johnston; (7) "A systematic approach to adult learning" by Miriam Zukas; (8) "People must be empowered to change the world" by Helen Rainbird; (9) "Less spin, more calm analysis" by Alan Wells; (10) "A more rounded skills strategy" by Richard Bolsin; (11) "A refocused debate on social inclusion" by Kathryn Ecclestone; (12) "Funding must be aligned with policy goals" by John Brennan; (13) "Active global citizenship" by Phyllis Thompson; (14) "Drop this fixation with targets" by Paul Mackney; and (15) "We need to share best practice" by David Sherlock.
