Comparing Distance vs. Campus-Based Delivery of Research Methods Courses

A causal-comparative pre-test, post-test design was used to investigate differences in learning in a research methods course for face-to-face and web-based delivery models. Analyses of participant achievement (N = 205) revealed almost no differences but post-hoc analyses revealed important differences in pedagogy between delivery models despite the instructor's characterization of them as equal. Elevating an awareness of pedagogical shifting across delivery models will likely lead to more effective university teaching of research methods courses in both face-to-face and distance programs.
