This article presents the authors' response to the insightful comments provided by Charles Alderson and Fred Davidson regarding their article entitled "Q-matrix construction: Defining the link between constructs and test items in large-scale reading and listening comprehension assessments" (Sawaki, Kim, & Gentile, 2009). Many issues raised by both authors are worthy of further discussion. In this article, the authors focus specifically on responding to some central issues related to their methodology raised by Alderson (2010) and a question raised by Davidson (2010) regarding how one might go about teaching the concepts of cognitive diagnosis.
