Martinez, Ray; Liu, Shijuan; Watson, William; Bichelmeyer, Barbara
Quarterly Review of Distance Education, v7 n3 p267-283 2006
Program evaluation is an important component of successful distance education programs. In this article, a distance master's Instructional Design and Technology Program is evaluated for overall quality. Interviews and a Web-based survey were the major instruments employed. Data was collected from three groups associated with the program: administrators, faculty, and students. The results discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the program, the benefits and drawbacks of teaching online, and several factors related to technology, program management, and course management, including instructional design. The findings emphasize the importance of technology and faculty in the program's success, and make recommendations for improvement. (Contains 4 tables.)
