"If I Had Only Known . . ."
Gifted Child Today, v33 n1 p14-15 Win 2010
The author's introductory course, "Nature and Needs of the Gifted," was unusual in the Fall semester this year because for the first time in a long time, most of her students had no background at all in gifted education. Teachers in her class were highly motivated and wanted to learn. They seemed to care about meeting the needs of the gifted, but they just did not know how. The author noticed these information and skill gaps from the first night of class, and about two weeks into the semester, she decided to record comments to document her observations. She asked the students to write and tell her how they felt about some of their questions and concerns. In this article, the author shares lessons she learned from the students' comments.
