Ong, Bessie; Cheong, K. C.
College Student Journal, v43 n4 p1279-1286 Dec 2009
This exploratory study intends to identify the types and nature of stressor experienced by students in an American Degree Transfer Program at a private university college in Malaysia. Data collection was done by an open-ended questionnaire. The findings showed that the top five most frequently reported stressors were academic workload, too many tests, difficult courses, exam grades, and lecturer characteristics. Our findings suggest that the structure of the American education system probably elicit similar types of academic stressor in both the American and Malaysian setting. In contrast, personal stressors reflected the students' previous educational background. (Contains 2 tables.)
