Global Mobility and the Challenges of Educational Research and Policy
Rizvi, Fazal
Yearbook of the National Society for the Study of Education, v108 n2 p268-289 Sep 2009
In this paper, the author focuses upon the global mobility of people and considers what some of its drivers are. The author explores the consequences it has in transforming not only the demographic composition of communities, but also the ways in which global interconnectivities now define the terrain in which social, economic, political and formations take place. The author wants to discuss how global mobility is transforming spaces, making them transnational, and how transnational identities and cultural practices are forged out of long-distance, cross-border connections among people. Against the backdrop of this discussion, the author wants to explore in particular how transnationalization of space has given rise to a number of new challenges for conducting educational research and developing educational policy.
