Portfolio assessment is a valuable form of authentic assessment. Once early childhood educators understand the purposes of appropriate assessment, they can use portfolios to scaffold individual children's learning. This article discusses the purposes of portfolio assessment and describes the different benefits it provide for children, families, and teachers.
