Geometry certainly is in fashion, at the Henrietta Barnett School for girls in North London. Within the project "Engaging mathematics for all learners", led and funded by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), the Royal Institution of Great Britain (Ri) looked into how mathematical tasks usually reserved for the "gifted and talented" can be used as part of the usual mathematics provision for all in a school in order to build core mathematical skills, increase confidence and introduce key mathematical concepts. In this article, the author discusses what Henrietta Barnett School wanted to achieve for their learners, how the school organised learning to meet its aims, how well the school is achieving its aims, and what the school plans to do next.
