From Communication to Cooperation to Collaboration: School and Public Librarians as Partners for Student Success
Wepking, Mary
Library Media Connection, v28 n3 p24-26 Nov-Dec 2009
When they hear the word "collaboration," today's teacher-librarians immediately think of their teaching faculty and the need to incorporate 21st century information skills into the school's curriculum. But there may be another professional or two in one's community who would also be very valuable collaborators, helping one to reach and teach children beyond the school day and school year. A review of recent literature and the ALA Web site on best practices in school and public library efforts reveals many great ideas for true collaboration with one's public library counterparts. This article presents some examples that are just a few simple ways to make this kind of collaboration happen. (Contains 3 figures.)
