Thanks-a-Latte, Seniors: The Library Hosts an Election Day Event
Repp, Anne
Library Media Connection, v28 n3 p16-17 Nov-Dec 2009
This article presents the Louisa County High School Library's annual Thanks-a-Latte Day, an event that introduces the American political process to LCHS seniors in a real way. Thanks-a-Latte Day was born from an idea found in a "School Library Journal" article by Charli O'Dell published in 1999. Her basic idea was to promote the school library by serving lattes to students as they visited the library on one day with their English classes, and then snagging them with the new, enticing materials on display. This idea was amended to apply to the school's situation and to recognize the LCHS seniors who had become fine young men and women. Thanks-a-Latte Day at Louisa County High School is symbolic of the changing roles of school librarians who promote the library--not just on Thanks-a-Latte Day, but every day--as the place to be.
