The author began teaching at the University of Oklahoma in the late 1970s. In this article, the author shares two memories of those times on campus. The first was looking out his office window and seeing Iranian students marching on campus, shouting, "The Shah is a Fascist Pig." The second memory provoked this paper. It made the author reflect upon the students and realize the reason why teachers are there in schools. The author addresses this paper to his colleagues from all disciplines and to new academy members trying to find their place in academia, and offers two reminders. Teachers enjoy the positions and the opportunities to produce scholarship because of those young men and women who, even on snowy days, walk around in flip-flops. Likewise, teachers will become accomplished teachers only when they chose both to engage in scholarship and to share it with students.
