Lessons We Can Learn from the Voices of Experience

This article reviews the preceding articles and distills from that collection answers to three questions that all good teachers need to ask and answer. The preceding articles in this volume have been written by teachers who have used the ideas of integrated course design (ICD) in an effort to improve their teaching and their students' learning. They represent a variety of disciplines and different levels of teaching experience. Their disciplines come from the full spectrum of university departments: (1) music; (2) accounting; (3) virology; (4) philosophy; (5) art history; (6) Spanish; (7) economics; (8) civil engineering; (9) psychology; (10) biology; (11) special education; and (12) biomolecular sciences. Some of these teachers are in the early years of their careers as college teachers, and others are veterans. The purpose of this article is to explore what everybody can learn from their experiences.
