An "Extreme Makeover" of a Course in Special Education
Nicoll-Senft, Joan M.
New Directions for Teaching and Learning, n119 p81-88 Fall 2009
Just as the popular television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" targets the demolition and reconstruction of a home so that it better meets the needs of its owners, Fink's approach to integrated course design (ICD; 2003) provides higher education faculty with the tools to deconstruct and do a major remodel of their college courses. Teaching responsibilities, coupled with a seemingly endless array of other university duties, often prevent faculty from such remodeling endeavors. Instead of tinkering with minor changes, the author used integrated course design as a blueprint for a major overhaul of her course. (Contains 2 tables.)
