Aquaponics and Hydroponics on a Budget
Johanson, Erik K.
Tech Directions, v69 n2 p21-23 Sep 2009
In response to the publication of the "Standards for Technological Literacy" by the International Technology Education Association (ITEA), technology education teachers have scrambled to add biotechnology-related components to the curriculum. This can present a particular challenge in terms of funding. In this article, the author details on a great way to add a biotechnology component to the technology education curriculum. He describes how to create an aquaponics system and a hydroponics system on a budget. Integrating biotechnology into the technology education curriculum gives students a more thorough educational experience, and experience with an expanding industrial field. (Contains 1 figure.)
