Asperger Syndrome and Six Strategies for Success

Asperger Syndrome (AS) is a developmental disability marked by impairments in verbal and nonverbal communication, socialization, and behavior. This article provides an introduction to the difficulties experienced by students with AS and six strategies that can be easily implemented by teachers or parents to help students acquire the skills needed to function more successfully. These interventions help to clarify tasks and demands, provide opportunities for stress reduction, increase student motivation, and build an understanding of the complex social world. Implementation of these strategies across environments can facilitate school and life success for students with AS. (Contains 4 figures.)
