Lilienthal, Lisa
Understanding Our Gifted, v17 n3 p21-23 Spr 2005
In this article, the author talks about Destination ImagiNation (DI), the world's largest creative problem solving (CPS) program, and describes how this program helps students. In many schools and communities, DI supplements or even serves as the talented and gifted program. CPS is also popular and appropriate for homeschool families because it provides a social as well as an academic outlet for participants. Through CPS, children are challenged to try new things; to fail, flounder, and get up and try again; to learn from others; and to learn with others. Many things come easily to the gifted child, and the opportunity to fail and try again is particularly important. In addition, learning how to work with others whose ideas may be different is a purposeful life experience that can be utilized time and time again.
