American History Lessons in New Jersey
Scrupski, Adam
Academic Questions, v15 n3 p62-74 Jun 2002
A committee of secondary school and college educators met in 2001 to develop content standards for teaching public school history. Adam Scrupski came away from that meeting amazed at the arrogance with which they imposed on New Jersey students, the firmly held belief that the story of America is predominantly one of capitalist, imperialist oppression of minorities and women. This article is an account of the committee's work that the author experienced as a member of the American history subcommittee. (Contains 11 notes.)
