Data Driven Teachers
Tech & Learning, v30 n1 p18 Aug 2009
Data-driven decision-making (DDDM) is a system of teaching and management practices that gets better information about students into the hands of classroom teachers. This article discusses the five major elements: (1) good baseline data; (2) measurable instructional goals; (3) frequent formative assessment; (4) professional learning communities; and (5) focused instructional interventions. By focusing on small, rapid improvements and then building upon those, teachers are having significant impact on student achievement. Their schools are not only surviving this new wave of accountability--they're also thriving in it.
