Seeing Children's Eagerness for Relationships
Curtis, Deb
Exchange: The Early Childhood Leaders' Magazine Since 1978, n188 p10-12 Jul-Aug 2009
The photo "Rescuing Hug" (www.52best.com/hug.asp) made famous on the Internet a few years ago had a huge impact on the way the author sees children's relationships with each other. With this inspiring story, the author has come to the powerful realization that if she believes children have the capacity and desire for deep connections then she supports and coaches them to live into their best selves. But transforming her view of children's challenging behaviors as they struggle to connect is no easy task, especially with the realities of negotiating daily life with large groups of young children. In this article, the author shares her stories that reflect the ongoing practice she used to see children's eagerness for relationships.
