From the National Academies: The Challenges and Opportunities for Improving Undergraduate Science Education through Introductory Courses
Labov, Jay B.
Cell Biology Education, v3 n4 p212-214 Win 2004
Introductory science courses often give undergraduates their first and, for many students, their last formal exposure to a deeper understanding of science. Thus, introductory courses might be the only opportunity to provide a basic level of scientific literacy for the educated lay public. In this article, the author discusses the challenges and opportunities for improving undergraduate science education through introductory courses, and requests reader comments and feedback on ways to better serve a changing and more diverse student body.
