Rising to the Challenge of Conducting Research on Asian Americans in Higher Education
Museus, Samuel D.; Chang, Mitchell J.
New Directions for Institutional Research, n142 p95-105 Sum 2009
There is a peculiar omission of Asian Americans from higher education research, and the seemingly inexorable model minority myth contributes to erecting and perpetuating barriers that continue to obstruct scholarship on this population. This chapter examines four interrelated barriers to generating scholarship on Asian Americans and makes a case for overcoming the omission of this population in higher education research. The main purpose of this chapter is to encourage readers to consider more deeply the barriers that may obstruct the progress of research on Asian Americans in higher education.
