Translating Research into Practice: Trans Youth Recommendations for Improving School Systems
Sausa, Lydia A.
Journal of Gay & Lesbian Issues in Education, v3 n1 p15-28 2005
Trans youth are considered one of the most marginalized and oppressed populations. Many experience transphobia and violence based on their gender identity and expression. This qualitative study describes the school experiences of 24 trans youth in Philadelphia and presents their recommendations for school administrators and educators. To effectively provide a safe learning environment for all students, it is imperative that the voices and experiences of trans youth are heard by education professionals and reflected in their policies and practices.
