Perspectives of Pre-Service Middle and Secondary Mathematics Teachers on the Use of Webquests in Teaching and Learning Geometry

The aim of this study was to examine the views of pre-service mathematics teachers on the use of webquests in teaching and learning geometry with reference to a theoretical framework developed by Dodge in 1995. For this study the researcher identified four groups containing nineteen pre-service mathematics teachers, which were then assigned to design a webquest regarding triangles or quadrilaterals based on the Van Hiele theory suitable for seventh graders. All group members contributed to the groups' webquests. After the design process, the researcher employed an open-ended questionnaire containing six questions about the use of webquests in teaching and learning. Analysis of the qualitative data and participants' opinions showed that using webquests had positive effects on the pre-service mathematics teachers' attitudes. Finally, the researcher demonstrated the limitations and benefits of using webquests. (Contains 1 note.)
