Defining Sex and Abstinence: Dialogue Is the Key
Hamill, Shelley D.; Chepko, Stevie
American Journal of Sexuality Education, v1 n1 p159-165 Dec 2005
When does abstinence end and sexual activity begin? In previous generations, the continuum of sexual activity was well-defined in the old baseball analogy. Teens, parents, and teachers knew what going to first, second, or third base involved. For the current generation of young people, sex and abstinence are not so well-defined. As parents and educators, we use these terms without precise and clear definitions of what we mean or in what context we are using them. The activity shared in this article is one method educators can use to promote discussion about sex, abstinence, and sexual activity.
