From Fiasco to Social Change: The Evolution of a Collective for Teaching Artists
Cobb, Catlin
Teaching Artist Journal, v4 n2 p84-91 May 2006
The Artists' Collective for Social Change (ACSC) was established after the success of a multidisciplinary theater-dance project completed in March 2000 at a girls' residential treatment facility, Devereux Deerhaven, in Chester, New Jersey. The uncomfortable nature of this artistic adventure resulted in a model for teaching at-risk and underserved populations and the need for an organization to fulfill it. In this article, the author discusses the impact of this residency, defines its success and how that might continue.
