Multicultural Seminar: A New Model for Professional Development
Denevi, Elizabeth; Carter, Randolph
Multicultural Perspectives, v8 n2 p18-24 Jul 2006
This article explores a new model for in-house professional development designed to introduce multicultural theories and practices to faculty and staff. The authors share their experience designing and implementing their seminar and offer educators a model for developing their own professional development program. This seminar design allows adults to work together on campus to address the challenges they face as they work with students and each other on a daily basis. Using the insights gained from a 4 year project at a K-12 school, the authors discuss how they are working to transform their school culture and create a more inclusive learning environment based on the principles of equity and social justice.
