Building a Cohesive Team: Increasing Communication and Understanding between Music Educators
Brown, Linda C.
Teaching Music, v16 n5 p24 Feb 2009
Recently, the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) general music forum was abuzz with comments about teacher hierarchy. Many general music teachers expressed dismay at not always receiving the respect they deserve from colleagues teaching ensembles at the secondary level. In this article, the author talks about the importance of communication and understanding between music educators. Dee Hansen, chair of graduate music education at The Hartt School of the University of Hartford, Connecticut, and author of Handbook for Music Supervision, recommends that teachers at all levels plan curriculum and attend in-services together to give them the opportunity to talk about how they do things and lead to understanding between disciplines.
