Motivating Freshman Students in a Business Management Course via Portfolios: Practice from a Greek Public University
Papadimitriou, Antigoni
Assessment Update, v21 n1 p10-12 Jan-Feb 2009
There are many ways to approach the evaluation of student learning. Portfolios, as collections of student work, are an increasingly popular assessment strategy, especially in the United States. Portfolios provide an exceptionally comprehensive picture of student learning. However, this assessment method requires extra effort to plan, to evaluate, and to store. This article shares the author's experiences in using voluntary portfolio assessments, a technique first introduced in a large business management class for the purposes of boosting overall student participation, developing critical thinking skills, and improving exam performance.
