One Mentor or Two: An Instrumental Case Study of Strategic Collaboration and Peer Mentoring

This instrumental case study investigates the use of a team mentoring approach in a first-year seminar, which was created in response to concerns about first-year student attrition. The seminar was developed in the department of Organizational Leadership at Purdue University--West Lafayette in 2004. The aims of the course were to familiarize students with the leadership curriculum, introduce them to the faculty teaching those courses, create a network of peers within the leadership major, and provide first-year students with upper-class mentors who could help them adjust to campus life. The differences between a one-mentor and a two-mentor design are discussed. (Contains 1 table and 1 figure.)
