Passage: From One Place to the next
Padilla, Kieran
Journal of College Admission, n202 p22-23 Win 2009
In this essay, the author describes how he came to realize, as his older friends head out for their first year of college, that they have a great air of adventure about them because they have laid down the old and are stretching out to grab on to the new. His older friends are stepping out and he is stepping into his new shoes, as a senior in high school, ready to see what life holds for him. What college will he attend, what state will he live in, who will he meet, what knowledge will kindle the intense fame of curiosity in his mind? The answer to all these questions and more lie right around the next bend in his life. No longer is his life punctuated by dreary grey question marks, but rather by bold red exclamation marks. In two weeks school goes back and he begins his senior year, and his own college search, in earnest.
