Educational Forums: Frames for Development of Professional Learning. A Project in Early Childhood Education in Norway

The overall intention of this project is to establish a learning community consisting of student teachers, their supervisors in day care institutions and the university teachers in preschool teacher education. In this article we focus on the Educational Forums established to develop a local base of common knowledge in the field of early childhood education and practice. Theoretically the project is rooted in a social constructivist tradition and it was carried out as a two-year interdisciplinary action research (2003-2005). The findings indicate that many student teachers have increased their involvement during the practicum. The supervisors tend to be more outspoken and heard at the university. The university teachers seem to involve themselves more, and their different subject research and teaching is more linked to the practicum, as we interpret it. One of the main benefits of the Educational Forums is that they make room for a more distinguished discourse on theory and practice for all participants. First and foremost we address the various experiences from the Educational Forums in this article. (Contains 2 figures and 7 notes.)
