Do and You Will Understand/beyond More Jews Doing Jewish
Newbrun, Deborah
Journal of Jewish Education, v73 n2 p131-132 May 2007
This article presents the author's response to Joseph Reimer's essay titled, "Beyond More Jews Doing Jewish: Clarifying the Goals of Informal Jewish Education." The author considers herself as the embodiment of an informal Jewish education practitioner now responding to Reimer's educational theory about the work she has spent her adult life putting into action. She has spent the last 25 years working as a director of a resident Jewish summer camp. Here, the author shares some new insights that she acquired while reading Reimer's essay and presents a few additional thoughts based on her own experiences. The author stresses that the only way to create and enact educational goals of informal Jewish education that both demand and delight is by following the Torah teaching, that is: Do and you will understand.
