Utilizing Your State AHPERD Conference to Increase Advocacy Efforts in Your State
Constantinou, Phoebe
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v22 n2 p36-37 Nov-Dec 2008
Many professionals in the field of health and physical education are engaged in advocacy efforts for positive changes at the state levels. However, some professionals feel they are not equipped to carry on a strong advocacy argument, whether at the principal's office or at some higher level office. A great time to plan, prepare, and train for a statewide advocacy campaign is at the AHPERD State Conference. Such conferences can be ideal as a variety of professionals attend--from seasoned educators to future professionals. Setting up a booth by the conference registration site is a great place to attract attention and distribute information on how to advocate for your program and field. In this article, the author discusses the type of information that should be included in this effort.
