Integrating Other Subject Matter without Jeopardizing Physical Education Goals: The Content Linkage Approach

Integrating other content areas into physical education does not have to come at the expense of learning and practicing movement concepts, skill themes, or fitness concepts. Through the use of the content linkage approach, physical educators can reinforce classroom content in a physical education setting. This article discusses the content linkage approach and describes how physical educators can employ this approach in the physical education setting. The content linkage approach not only works to promote the need for movement learning, physical activity, and quality physical education in schools, but also demonstrates how physical education can help meet school-wide learning goals and foster the development of the whole child.
