Using Stories Effectively with Infants and Toddlers
Birckmayer, Jennifer; Kennedy, Anne; Stonehouse, Anne
Young Children, v64 n1 p42-47 Jan 2009
In this excerpt from the book "From Lullabies to Literature: Stories in the Lives of Infants and Toddlers," the authors offer dos and don'ts for sharing story experiences with very young children. They include tips such as keeping groups intimate, showing pleasure and enthusiasm, being expressive, and using props. The authors suggest story strategies specific to three age groups: infants, younger toddlers, and older toddlers, and strategies for sharing stories with children with visual impairments and hearing impairments.
