"It Just Sort of Evolved": Negotiating Group Identity among Writers
Bruckner, Teresa
Writing Instructor, Jan 2004
In this article, the author shares her observations as a member of the City Writers, a community-based fiction-writers' workshop that is not affiliated with any universities or any organizations in the state of Illinois. The group was started with a small grant from the state's arts council, but City Writers no longer receives any form of public funding. Membership is open to any adult in the community; there are no fees or forms associated with membership. The group meets on the premises of and with the support of a foundation housed in a local church. Here, the author describes her understanding of the work of City Writers.
