Hasapikos "Syrtaki" Dance: Rhythmical and Kinetic Analysis and Rhythmical Numeration
Nikolaos, Vavritas
Research in Dance Education, v5 n2 p139-158 Dec 2004
The present study aims to investigate the relationship between the rhythmical and the kinetic parts of the Hasapikos dance--both slow and fast--so that, after their relation is determined and recorded, the authentic form of the dance can be formally expressed with rhythmical numeration for teaching purposes. The collection of the data was based on a selection of files and written sources. The following analysis was used: (a) rhythmical organization (rhythmical form, tempo, movements [time values], measurement of metre, musical rhythm-metre); (b) rhythmical and kinetic analysis and rhythmical numeration; and (c) organization of motives (dancing motive). After evaluating the findings of the present research, the rhythmical organization was recorded and the affinity of its rhythmical and kinetic elements were determined and recorded. This affinity was expressed through rhythmical numeration. Finally, the rhythmical and kinetic picture of the dance was described. The precise determination and recording of the relationship between the rhythmical and kinetic elements of the Hasapikos dance, as well as the verbal expression of this relation with rhythmical numeration, contributes to the complete study and tuition of the Hasapikos dance.
