"Where Did I See that Story?": Using "The Storyteller's Sourcebooks" to Locate Folktales
MacDonald, Margaret Read
Knowledge Quest, v36 n5 p22-24 May-Jun 2008
This article discusses how to use "The Storyteller's Sourcebooks" to locate folktales. This two volume set allows one to look up tales by subject, title, or by motif. It indexes 556 folktale collections and 389 picture books. The book is arranged according to the Stith Thompson Motif-Index of Folk-Literature. By looking up a subject or a tale title, one is directed to a motif number, where he/she will find a summary of the tale and bibliographical information about its sources.
