Publishing in '63: Looking for Relevance in a Changing Scene
Reynolds, Thomas
Composition Studies, v36 n1 p57-68 Spr 2008
In this article, the author examines various publications published in 1963 in an attempt to look for relevance in a changing publication scene. The author considers Gordon Parks's reportorial photographs and accompanying personal essay, "What Their Cry Means to Me," as an act of publishing with implications for the teaching of written composition. The author takes note of Parks's rare foray into journalistic writing in order to highlight his courage, especially its relevance.
