Multicultural Education and Head Start: Empowering Young Children

This article discusses in detail the goals of multicultural education for young children. Specific goals include the following: (1) culturally responsive teaching; (2) developing identities; (3) broadening perspectives and creating connections; (4) critical thinking; and (5) social activism. With emphasis on these goals, multicultural education has the potential to enhance the work of Head Start teachers and help them fulfill the ideals of the program.
