Student Characteristics and Expectations of University Classes: A Free Elicitation Approach
Moore, Melissa L.; Moore, Robert S.; McDonald, Robert
College Student Journal, v42 n1 p82-89 Mar 2008
Past research has shown that there are subpopulation differences in what students expect from a specific class. These expectation evaluations are usually conducted in the process of when the class is being delivered. Framing the class as a service experience, we take a step back in the service delivery process and assess what students expect from a university class in general. We use a free elicitation approach to capture the salient expectations of 271 students. Our findings are counter to some recent forced choice expectations research and suggest that faculty and student expectations may, at least originally, be aligned. (Contains 1 table.)
