Undergraduate International Students: A Resource for the Intercultural Education of American Peers?
Breuning, Marijke
College Student Journal, v41 n4 p1114-1122 Dec 2007
Intercultural education is widely perceived as desirable and international students are increasingly perceived as a resource for fostering intercultural competencies among American college students. This study surveys undergraduate international students at a small, primarily undergraduate, public liberal arts university in the Midwest to investigate their willingness to help educate their American peers. The survey found that undergraduate international students are quite willing to do so, but prefer events they themselves organize as the vehicle for intercultural teaching. Some differences between students from different continents are noted. The paper discusses the implications of its findings and makes recommendations. (Contains 5 notes.)
