Phasha, Tlakale Nareadi
Sex Education: Sexuality, Society and Learning, v8 n4 p465-480 Nov 2008
The present paper presents findings drawn from a qualitative study that investigated the impact of childhood sexual abuse on school functioning among young adult survivors in South Africa. Data were obtained by means of in-depth individual interviews with 22 young adults. Analyzing the interviews following procedures aligned to a grounded theory approach, the findings revealed the link between the emotional consequences of the experience and the individual's school performance. To provide a detailed explanation of the victims' responses, the discussion includes the multifaceted factors that trigger emotions and their interactions.
