Communication Opportunities for Students with Deafblindness in Specialized and Inclusive Settings: A Pilot Study

Many students with deafblindness now are educated in less restricted educational environments with their hearing and sighted peers. However, that less restricted education setting does not guarantee deafblind students opportunities for communication and social interactions. The author observed 4 students with deafblindness and gathered information related to their opportunities for communication and social interactions in their educational settings. Results of this pilot study offer insights into the frequency of social interactions among students with deafblindness, their hearing and sighted peers, and adults in different education settings.
