We Must Start up Scientific Research in Higher Education: My Humble Opinion on the Establishment of Higher Education as a Discipline
Maoyuan, Pan
Chinese Education and Society, v40 n3 p27-44 May-Jun 2007
General education is basic education and, in theory, is the general education that every citizen must undergo as well as the basic education that every type of specialization must have. It is undoubtedly fundamental and important to the entire educational system. However, specialized education is more directly related to, and plays a more important part in, national economic construction and the development of culture and science. If people will look back at the history of the development of contemporary higher education in China and abroad, they will clearly see that a close interdependence exists between the development of higher education and contemporary economic development. In this article, the author cites several reasons why theoretical research in higher education is important to enriching the research contents of education science and to promoting the development and improvement of education science. The author also attempts to conduct a preliminary exploration of the differences between higher education and general education.
